Moving to Minnesota Directly into an LTCF

Eligibility for Minnesota MA cannot begin for a person moving directly from another state (without placement by that state) into a Minnesota LTCF until the day the person is physically in the state and has intent to remain.

For people moving from another state into a Minnesota LTCF, who are age 65 or older, or disabled, and who cannot live outside of an institution, the request for MA-LTC may be processed, but not approved, prior to the person’s move to Minnesota. Contact the institution to notify them that the person will be eligible for MA on the day of admission to the institution. Approve eligibility as of the day of admission to the institution when you are notified of the admission by the institution.
